SABIC BM6246LS HDPE Unimodal Resin
SABIC BM6246LS is a unimodal high-density polyethylene (HDPE) resin specifically engineered for pressure pipe applications.
Physical Properties
- Density: Measured via ASTM D792, the material’s density is 0.961 g/cc (0.0347 lb/in³), indicating high rigidity for structural applications.
- ESCR 100% Igepal®: At F50 per ASTM D1693B, environmental stress crack resistance is 24 hours under 100% Igepal® concentration.
- ESCR 10% Igepal®: Under F50 (ASTM D1693B), resistance to 10% Igepal® is 16 hours, showing reduced durability at lower chemical strength.
- Melt Flow (2.16 kg): As per ASTM D1238, the rate is 0.70 g/10 min at 190 °C (374 °F) under a 2.16 kg (4.76 lb) load, suitable for low-flow processes.
- Melt Flow (5.00 kg): Under a 5.00 kg (11.0 lb) load, the rate increases to 2.5 g/10 min, reflecting improved flow with higher stress.
- Melt Flow (21.6 kg): At 21.6 kg (47.6 lb) load, the melt flow rate surges to 46 g/10 min, indicating high responsiveness to heavy loading.
Polymer Properties:
- Base Material: High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) homopolymer.
- Key Features:
- Outstanding ESCR: This grade provides exceptional resistance to slow crack growth, a critical factor for the longevity of pipes.
- Superior Hydrostatic Strength: BM6246LS is rated for high-pressure applications.
- Optimized for Pipe Extrusion: Ideal viscosity for pipe extrusion.
Applications:
- Potable Water Pipes: The resin’s long-term hydrostatic strength and excellent ESCR make it a preferred material for potable water distribution pipes.
- Gas Distribution Pipes: Its high pressure rating and resistance to stress cracking are essential for natural gas and propane distribution networks.
- Industrial and Sewer Pipes: This grade is also widely used in industrial piping and sewer systems.
