ExxonMobil LL 6201.19 is a narrow molecular weight butene copolymer manufactured by ExxonMobil, suitable for thin – walled food packaging and medical packaging.

Physical Properties

  • Density: Measured by ASTM D1505, LL 6201.19 has a density of 0.926 g/cc (0.0335 lb/in³). This density contributes to its mechanical properties, providing stability in thin – walled part applications.
  • ESCR 10% Igepal®: With an ESCR of 30 hours (F50, ASTM D1693B), LL 6201.19 offers a certain level of resistance to environmental stress, suitable for specific packaging uses.
  • Melt Flow: The melt flow of LL 6201.19 is 50 g/10 min (ASTM D1238, 190 °C, 2.16 kg load), indicating high processability for efficient production of thin – walled products.

    Performance Characteristics:
    • Processability: The resin’s high melt flow rate (MFR) enables excellent mold filling for complex geometries. Typical MFR is around 50 g/10 min (2.16 kg, 190°C), ensuring smooth processing in injection molding.
    • Gloss: Parts manufactured from LL 6201.19 exhibit good surface gloss, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of houseware products.
    • Toughness and Durability: Offers superior toughness compared to low-density polyethylene (LDPE), with high tensile strength and elongation at break, ensuring durability for daily use. 
  • 2. Lids and Closures
    Description: LL 6201.19 is suitable for manufacturing lids and closures for food packaging, cosmetics, and other containers. Its balance of stiffness and toughness ensures secure sealing while maintaining ease of opening.
    Performance Characteristics:
    • Environmental Stress Crack Resistance (ESCR): The resin provides excellent ESCR, critical for lids exposed to chemicals or stress over time. ESCR values typically exceed 100 hours (ASTM D1693, Condition B).
    • Stiffness: With a flexural modulus of around 400-500 MPa, LL 6201.19 ensures lids maintain structural integrity under stacking or pressure.
    • Heat Distortion Resistance: The resin’s Vicat softening temperature is approximately 100°C, allowing lids to withstand moderate heat without deforming.
  • 3. Thin-Walled Articles
    Description: LL 6201.19 is optimized for thin-walled injection-molded parts, such as disposable containers, packaging components, and lightweight structural items.
    Performance Characteristics:
    • High Flow: The high flow properties (MFR ~50 g/10 min) enable rapid mold filling, reducing cycle times and improving production efficiency for thin-walled parts.
    • Impact Resistance: Notched Izod impact strength is typically around 50-60 kJ/m², providing excellent resistance to cracking or breaking in thin sections.
    • Lightweighting: The resin’s density (~0.926 g/cm³) allows for lightweight parts without compromising strength, reducing material costs.
  • 4. Compounding Applications (LL 6201XR Variant)
    Description: The LL 6201XR variant, a European-grade resin, is recommended for cable compounding and masterbatch base resin applications, leveraging its processability and compatibility with additives.
    Performance Characteristics:
    • Thermal Stability: Contains a thermal stabilizer additive, ensuring stability during high-temperature processing, such as extrusion for cable compounds.
    • Compatibility: The narrow molecular weight distribution enhances compatibility with other polymers and additives, ensuring consistent performance in masterbatch formulations.
    • Mechanical Properties: Provides a balance of tensile strength (10-12 MPa at yield) and flexibility, suitable for cable insulation and jacketing.
