ExxonMobil LD 200.48 LDPE Resin

ExxonMobil™ LD 200.48 is a low-density polyethylene (LDPE) resin specifically designed for general-purpose blown film applications.

Physical Properties

  • Density: Measured by ExxonMobil Method, the density is 0.915 g/cc (0.0331 lb/in³), a low-density grade suitable for lightweight flexible packaging requirements.
  • Melt Flow: In accordance with ASTM D1238, the melt flow rate is 7.5 g/10 min under a load of 2.16 kg and at 190 °C, balancing processability and coating adhesion.
  • Neck In:
    • At 164 ft/min (50 m/min), constant output at 35 rpm (ExxonMobil Method), the neck in is 3.60 cm (1.42 in).
    • At 328 ft/min (100 m/min), constant output at 35 rpm (ExxonMobil Method), the neck in is 3.60 cm (1.42 in).
    • Under ExxonMobil Method (unspecified speed), the neck in is 5.10 cm (2.01 in).
  • Drawdown: At constant output at 35 rpm (ExxonMobil Method), the drawdown is 1.83 m/s (360 ft/min).

Polymer Properties:

  • Base Material: Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE)
  • Key Features:
    • Low neck-in design minimizes edge waste in high-speed extrusion coating processes.
    • Strong adhesion to paper, cardboard, and plastic substrates for composite packaging.
    • Wide heat-seal window for reliable sealing at varying temperatures in form-fill-seal machines.
    • FDA-compliant formulation for direct food contact applications.

Applications:

The versatile properties of LD 200.48 make it an ideal material for a range of demanding film applications.

  • General Purpose Bags: Used to produce a variety of bags, including consumer bags, bread bags, fresh produce bags, and other general-purpose packaging.
  • Food and Textile Packaging: Its balanced strength and optical properties are well-suited for films used in both food packaging and textile wrapping, offering product protection and visibility.
  • Co-extrusion Films: The consistent processability and film properties make it a suitable component in multi-layer co-extrusion films where layers with different properties are required.
  • Shrink Films: Its good mechanical properties and processability also make it a viable option for certain shrink film applications.
