BASF ULTRAMID B3EG3 PA6 Resin

BASF Ultramid B3EG3 is a 15% glass fiber-reinforced Polyamide 6 (PA6) resin produced by BASF.

Physical Properties

  • Density: Measured per ISO 1183, the density is 1.23 g/cc (0.0444 lb/in³), defining the material’s mass-to-volume ratio for physical property analysis.
  • Moisture Absorption at Equilibrium:At 50% RH, moisture retention is 2.3% (2.3–2.9% at 23°C, ISO 62) and 7.7% at saturation, showing humidity dependence.
  • Water Absorption at Saturation: Per ISO 62, it ranges 7.7–8.3%, reflecting the material’s maximum moisture uptake when fully submerged.
  • Viscosity Measurement: At 140 (ISO 307), this value helps assess molecular weight and melt flow consistency during manufacturing processes.
  • Linear Mold Shrinkage: At 0.0045 cm/cm (0.0045 in/in, restricted), aids predicting molded parts’ dimensional changes during cooling/solidification.
  • Melt Flow: Per ISO 1133, the rate is 92.25 g/10 min at 275°C (527°F) under 5.00 kg (11.0 lb) load for extrusion/injection molding processability.

Polymer Properties:

  • Base Material: Polyamide 6 (PA6)
  • Reinforcement: 15% Glass Fiber
  • Modification Features:
    • Significantly enhanced tensile strength and rigidity thanks to glass fiber reinforcement.
    • Improved heat deflection temperature, allowing it to be used in higher – temperature environments.
    • Reduced shrinkage during processing, which enhances dimensional accuracy.

Applications:

The combination of its reinforced structure and balanced mechanical properties makes Ultramid B3EG3 a preferred material for components that require durability, structural integrity, and resistance to environmental factors.

  1. Automotive Components
    • This grade is a mainstay in the automotive industry, particularly for housings and structural parts that need to withstand vibrations, impacts, and a range of temperatures.
    • Its glass fiber reinforcement provides the rigidity necessary for reliable performance.
  2. Electrical and Electronic Housings
    • The material’s good dielectric properties and enhanced impact resistance make it well-suited for electrical components.
    • It is used for housings that protect sensitive internal parts from mechanical damage and electrical interference.
  3. Industrial and Mechanical Engineering
    • Ultramid B3EG3 is also used for a variety of general industrial applications where a strong, rigid, and durable material is needed. This includes functional parts in machinery and equipment.
