Ineos ABSOLAC 200EP ABS Resin

INEOS ABSOLAC® 200EP is a specialty-grade ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) resin, specifically developed for electroplating applications.

Physical Properties

  • Density: In accordance with ISO 1183, the density of injection-molded samples is 1.04 g/cc (0.0376 lb/in³).
  • Linear Mold Shrinkage: Determined by ISO 294-4 for injection-molded plaques, the linear mold shrinkage is 0.0040–0.0060 cm/cm (0.0040–0.0060 in/in).
  • Melt Flow: Tested per ISO 1133 at 220 °C (428 °F) with a 10 kg (22 lb) load, the melt flow rate is 20 g/10 min.

Polymer Properties:

  • Base Material: Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS)
  • Modification Features:
    • Electroplating grade for metallic surface finishes.
    • Good surface adhesion for reliable plating.
    • Rigid structure for plating process stability.

Applications:

Given its specialized electroplating capability, ABSOLAC® 200EP is primarily used for parts that require a metallic, polished, or chrome-plated finish.

Its main applications are in the automotive, sanitary, and consumer goods industries.

  1. Automotive Parts (Interior & Exterior):
    • This is one of the biggest markets for ABSOLAC® 200EP.
    • It’s used for both interior and exterior components that require a chrome finish, such as radiator grilles, light housings, emblems, interior trim, air vents, and door handles.
    • Using electroplated ABS is a cost-effective alternative to using solid metal parts, providing the same high-end look with less weight.
  2. Sanitary Fittings:
    • The material is widely used for producing faucet handles, showerheads, and bathroom fixtures that are later electroplated.
    • The plated surface provides corrosion resistance and a smooth, attractive finish.
  3. Consumer Goods: It’s a popular choice for components in consumer goods that benefit from a metallic appearance, such as camera parts, fishing reels, fan caps, and household appliance trims.
  4. Helmets: The electroplating grade is sometimes used for specific parts of helmets to give them a metallic look, combining durability with a sleek design.
