SABIC 8620 Short Glass Modified PP Resin

SABIC 8620 Short Glass Modified PP is a short glass fiber reinforced polypropylene (PP) polymer produced by SABIC (Saudi Basic Industries Corporation).

Physical Properties

  • Density: Measured using injection-molded samples in accordance with ISO 527-1A and ISO 1183, the density is 1.03 g/cc (0.0372 lb/in³).
  • Filler Content: Determined by the SABIC method, the filler content is 18%.
  • Linear Mold Shrinkage: For injection-molded plaques (65x65x3.2mm) using the SABIC method, the linear mold shrinkage is 0.0070 cm/cm (0.0070 in/in).
  • Melt Flow: As per ISO 1133, at a temperature of 230 °C (446 °F) under a load of 2.16 kg (4.76 lb), the melt flow rate is 23 g/10 min.

Polymer Properties:

  • Base Material: Polypropylene (PP)
  • Reinforcement: Short Glass Fiber
  • Modification Features:
    • Glass fiber reinforcement enhances rigidity and mechanical strength for structural applications.
    • Good heat resistance maintains performance in elevated temperature environments.
    • Excellent dimensional stability reduces shrinkage and warpage in molded parts.
    • Suitable for injection molding, enabling complex geometries and high-volume production.
    • Improved impact resistance compared to unreinforced PP for durable applications.

Applications:

  • Automotive: Dashboards, bumpers, engine-related parts, and interior trims, meeting automotive industry standards for strength and heat tolerance.
  • Electronics: Appliance housings , sockets, and electronic enclosures requiring safety, rigidity, and heat resistance.
  • Industrial Equipment: Mechanical housings, pipes, structural components, and industrial machinery parts needing robust mechanical performance.
