NatureWorks 2003D Hot Sale PLA Resin

NatureWorks Ingeo™ 2003D is a polylactic acid (PLA) resin from NatureWorks LLC known for its excellent clarity, low odor, and ease of processing.

Physical Properties

  • Specific Gravity: Determined by ASTM D792 standard, the specific gravity of the material is 1.24 g/cc, reflecting its density relative to water.
  • Viscosity Measurement: At 30.0 °C (86.0 °F), the relative viscosity measures 4.0 when tested as a 1.0 g/dl solution in chloroform, indicating flow characteristics.
  • Melt Flow: As per ASTM D1238, the melt flow rate is 6.0 g/10 min under a 2.16 kg (4.76 lb) load at 210 °C (410 °F), showing processability during melting.

Polymer Properties:

  1. Base Material: Polylactic Acid (PLA)
  2. Key Features & Characteristics:
    • Excellent Processability: Offers stable and consistent performance on various conversion equipment, from sheet extrusion to thermoforming and injection molding.
    • High Transparency: Produces clear parts and films with low haze, making it ideal for packaging and consumer products.
    • Good Rigidity: Provides a stiff, rigid structure suitable for trays and containers.
    • Low Volatile Content: Ensures less odor during processing and is a sustainable, plant-based alternative to petroleum-based plastics.

Applications:

NatureWorks 2003D’s combination of high transparency, good rigidity, and excellent processability makes it suitable for a variety of general-purpose products, especially those where aesthetics and sustainability are important.

  • Thermoformed Packaging: Ideal for creating clear food containers, trays, and lids due to its good rigidity and clarity.
  • Disposable Drink Cups and Cutlery: Its high rigidity and transparency make it a popular choice for single-use cups and utensils, providing a sustainable alternative to traditional plastics.
  • Injection-Molded Parts: Can be used for injection molding of clear containers, cosmetic packaging, and other consumer goods where a stiff, transparent material is required.
  • Film and Extruded Sheets: Suitable for producing clear films and sheets for packaging and display purposes.

Processing Guidelines

NatureWorks 2003D is a highly versatile grade that can be processed on a variety of conventional equipment. Proper drying is crucial to prevent hydrolysis and ensure optimal product quality.

  • Recommended Processing Temperature (Extrusion/Molding): 170-200 °C
  • Drying: The resin should be dried to a moisture content of <250 ppm before processing. Recommended drying conditions are 4 hours at 40 °C.
