DUPONT DELRIN 510GR POM Resin

DUPONT Delrin 510GR is a 10% glass – reinforced medium – viscosity polyoxymethylene (POM) homopolymer by DuPont.

Physical Properties

  • Density: As per ISO 1183, the material’s density is 1.49 g/cc (0.0538 lb/in³), defining its mass per unit volume for standard characterization.
  • Water Absorption: At 2.00 mm thickness (sim. ISO 62), water absorption is 1.1%, indicating moderate moisture retention under immersion conditions.
  • Moisture Absorption: At 2.00 mm thickness (sim. ISO 62), moisture absorption is 0.160%, showing low uptake compared to water immersion.
  • Linear Mold Shrinkage, Flow: By ISO 294-4/2577, flow-direction shrinkage is 0.010 cm/cm (0.010 in/in), critical for dimensional stability in molding.
  • Linear Mold Shrinkage, Transverse: Per ISO 294-4/2577, transverse shrinkage is 0.014 cm/cm (0.014 in/in), highlighting directional differences in component contraction.
  • Melt Flow: Volumetric rate is 12 cm³/10min under 2.16 kg/190°C (ISO 1133), reflecting good processability for injection molding applications.

Polymer Properties:

  1. Base Material: Polyoxymethylene (POM)
  2. Reinforcement: 10% Glass Fiber
  3. Modification Features
    • 10% glass fiber enhances strength and rigidity.
    • Medium viscosity aids in smooth injection molding.
    • Improves heat deflection temperature for heat resistance.
    • Boosts creep resistance for dimensional stability.

Applications:

The combination of very high stiffness, strength, and creep resistance makes Delrin 510GR a top choice for demanding structural and load-bearing applications.

  • Automotive Under-the-Hood Parts: Ideal for components like air intake manifolds, brackets, and housings that require high strength and dimensional stability at elevated temperatures.
  • Industrial and Machinery Components: Used for structural parts, bearing cages, and precision gears that are subjected to high loads and need to resist long-term deformation.
  • Power Tool Casings: Suitable for parts that require high rigidity to protect internal components and maintain structural integrity.
  • Structural Components in Consumer Goods: Employed in parts that serve a structural function in appliances, furniture, and other consumer products.

Processing Guidelines

Delrin 510GR is optimized for injection molding. Proper drying is crucial to ensure optimal processing and part quality.

  • Drying: Due to the glass filler, proper drying is critical. It is recommended to pre-dry the material at 80°C for 2-4 hours.
  • Melt Temperature: 200-220°C
  • Mold Temperature: 80-120°C
  • Note: The glass fibers can be abrasive. It is recommended to use hardened tool steel for molds and screw and barrel systems designed for glass-filled materials.
