CELANESE CELCON M270UV POM Resin
Celanese Celcon M270UV is a natural UV – stabilized, high – flow acetal copolymer by Celanese.
Physical Properties
- Density: As per ISO 1183, the material has a density of 1.41 g/cc in metric and 0.0509 lb/in³ in English, indicating its mass per unit volume.
- Moisture Absorption: Tested at 23°C and 50% relative humidity following ISO 62, it absorbs 0.200 % moisture, showing its water – uptake tendency.
- Water Absorption at Saturation: Based on ISO 62 standards, when fully saturated, the material reaches a 0.75 % water absorption level, important for wet – environment applications.
- Linear Mold Shrinkage, Flow: According to ISO 294 – 4, the linear mold shrinkage along the flow direction is 0.017 cm/cm (metric) or 0.017 in/in (English), crucial for mold design.
- Linear Mold Shrinkage, Transverse: Per ISO 294 – 4, the linear mold shrinkage perpendicular to the flow direction measures 0.016 cm/cm (metric) or 0.016 in/in (English), affecting part dimensions.
- Melt Flow: At a load of 2.16 kg (4.76 lb) and 190 °C (374 °F) as per ISO 1133, the melt flow rate is 23 g/10 min, determining its fluidity during molding.
Polymer Properties:
- Base Material: Acetal Copolymer (Polyoxymethylene – POM)
- Key Features & Characteristics:
- UV Stabilization: The “UV” designation indicates that this material is specifically formulated with UV inhibitors to prevent brittleness and color fading, ensuring long-term performance in outdoor or sun-exposed applications.
- Very High Flowability: The exceptionally high Melt Flow Rate of this resin allows for the molding of very complex, thin-walled, or multi-cavity parts with ease, reducing cycle times and improving production efficiency.
- Excellent Mechanical Strength and Rigidity: Despite its high flow, this grade maintains a strong and stiff structure, making it suitable for durable, long-lasting components.
- Low Friction and Wear: The material has a naturally low coefficient of friction, making it an ideal choice for parts that slide or rotate against each other without the need for external lubrication.
- Dimensional Stability: With very low moisture absorption, parts maintain their precise dimensions in varying environmental conditions.
Applications:
The combination of UV resistance, very high flow, and excellent mechanical properties makes Celcon M270UV a leading material for a variety of intricate and long-life applications.
- Automotive Interior and Exterior Parts: Ideal for small, complex components like gears in power seats, clips, and dashboard controls that are exposed to sunlight and require long-term stability.
- Consumer Electronics: Suitable for parts in mobile device enclosures, laptop housings, and printer housings where high-precision, thin-walled components are needed.
- Precision Engineering: Used for tiny, intricate parts in toys, lock components, and precision gears where high flow and a clean fill are essential.
- Outdoor and Industrial Components: Employed in small electrical connectors, switch housings, and fittings that require durability and resistance to environmental factors.
Processing Guidelines
Celcon M270UV is optimized for high-speed injection molding. Proper drying is crucial to ensure optimal processing and part quality.
- Drying: Although POM has very low moisture absorption, it is recommended to dry the material at 80°C for 3 hours to remove any surface moisture.
- Melt Temperature: 190-210°C
- Mold Temperature: 60-90°C
