CELANESE HOSTAFORM C 13021 RM Modified POM Resin

CELANESE HOSTAFORM C 13021 RM is an injection – molding – grade POM copolymer produced by CELANESE.

Physical Properties

  • Density: Measured per ISO 1183, the material’s density is 1.41 g/cc (0.0509 lb/in³), defining its mass per unit volume for property evaluation.
  • Water Absorption at Saturation: As per ISO 62, the material absorbs 0.65% water at saturation, indicating low moisture retention when fully submerged.
  • Linear Mold Shrinkage, Flow: By ISO 294-4, flow-direction shrinkage is 0.020 cm/cm (0.020 in/in), crucial for ensuring dimensional stability in molded parts.
  • Linear Mold Shrinkage, Transverse: Per ISO 294-4, transverse shrinkage is 0.018 cm/cm (0.018 in/in), highlighting directional differences in component contraction.
  • Melt Flow: Under ISO 1133 at 190°C/2.16 kg, the melt flow rate is 12.5 g/10 min [cm³/10min], reflecting processability for injection molding applications.

Polymer Properties:

  1. Base Material: Polyoxymethylene (POM) Copolymer
  2. Modification Features:
    • Improved friction properties, ideal for sliding combinations like Hostaform/Hostaform setups (e.g., smooth – running zippers).
    • Good chemical resistance against solvents, fuel, and strong alkalis.
    • High resistance to thermal and oxidative degradation.
    • Offers good hydrolysis resistance.

Applications:

Hostaform® C 13021 RM is widely used across industries due to its balance of mechanical strength, chemical resistance, and low-friction properties. Its applications include:

  • Automotive Engineering
    • Gears and Bearings: Used in transmission components, window regulators, and seat adjustment mechanisms due to low friction and high wear resistance.
    • Fuel System Components: Employed in fuel pump housings and valve components, leveraging its resistance to fuels and solvents.
    • Fasteners and Clips: Ideal for snap-fit connectors and clips due to its high rigidity and toughness.
  • Precision Engineering
    • Precision Molded Parts: Used in small, intricate components such as watch gears, micro-pumps, and medical device parts due to its easy-flow characteristics.
    • Sliding Mechanisms: Applied in linear guides and sliding tracks for machinery, benefiting from its low-friction modification.
  • Electrical and Electronic Industry
    • Connectors and Housings: Used in electrical connectors, switchgear components, and sensor housings due to its electrical insulation and mechanical strength.
    • Insulating Components: Employed in circuit breaker parts and cable management systems, leveraging its UL 94 HB rating.
  • Domestic Appliances
    • Washing Machine Components: Used in pump impellers, bearings, and valve components due to hydrolysis resistance and durability.
