CELANESE HOSTAFORM C 2521 Standard POM Resin
CELANESE HOSTAFORM C 2521 is a stiff-flowing polyoxymethylene (POM) copolymer grade manufactured by Celanese Corporation.
Physical Properties
- Density: As specified by ISO 1183, the density is 1.41 g/cc (0.0509 lb/in³), defining the material’s mass per unit volume.
- Density of Compound: The compound density measures 1.20 g/cc (0.0434 lb/in³), indicating a reduced density compared to the base material.
- Water Absorption at Saturation: Following ISO 62, the material absorbs 0.65% water at saturation, reflecting its maximum moisture absorption capacity.
- Linear Mold Shrinkage, Flow: Per ISO 294-4, flow-direction shrinkage is 0.021 cm/cm (0.021 in/in) for molded components during processing.
- Linear Mold Shrinkage, Transverse: Transverse shrinkage is 0.018 cm/cm (0.018 in/in) as per ISO 294-4, showing less shrinkage perpendicular to the flow direction.
- Melt Flow: At 190 °C (374 °F) under a 2.16 kg (4.76 lb) load, the melt flow rate is 2.5 g/10 min (ISO 1133), indicating processability in manufacturing.

Applications:
- Automotive Components:
Hostaform® C 2521 is widely used in automotive applications due to its high impact toughness, chemical resistance, and thermal stability. Specific applications include:- Gears and Bearings: The material’s high rigidity and low friction properties make it ideal for precision gears and bearings in automotive systems, such as transmission components and window lift mechanisms. Its Charpy notched impact strength ensures durability under mechanical stress.
- Fuel System Components: The excellent resistance to fuels and solvents allows its use in fuel pump housings, fuel line connectors, and tank components, where it withstands prolonged exposure to aggressive chemicals.
- Interior and Exterior Parts: Its good tracking resistance and UV stability (especially in modified grades like Hostaform® C 2521 LS) make it suitable for interior clips, fasteners, and exterior trim parts exposed to temperature fluctuations.
- 2. Industrial Components:
Hostaform® C 2521 is used in industrial applications requiring robust mechanical performance and chemical resistance.- Conveyor System Parts: Its high impact toughness and low friction make it suitable for conveyor rollers, guides, and chain links, where it reduces wear and maintenance needs.
- Pumps and Valves: The material’s resistance to hydrolysis and chemicals allows its use in pump impellers and valve components exposed to water, oils, or corrosive fluids.
Data Evidence: The material’s flexural modulus and compressive stress properties support its use in load-bearing industrial components, while its low water absorption (<0.2%) ensures performance in humid environments.
- 3. Consumer Goods:
Hostaform® C 2521 is employed in consumer products requiring durability and aesthetic quality.- Appliance Components: Used in parts like washing machine gears, dishwasher spray arms, and vacuum cleaner components due to its toughness and resistance to detergents and water.
- Sporting Goods: Its high impact strength and rigidity make it suitable for components in sporting equipment, such as ski bindings and bicycle parts, where mechanical reliability is critical.
Data Evidence: The material’s ball indentation hardness and tensile strain at break ensure long-term durability in consumer applications subjected to repeated mechanical stress.
- 4. Electrical and Electronic Components:
The material’s electrical properties and thermal stability make it suitable for electrical applications.- Connectors and Housings: Used in electrical connectors and switchgear housings due to its high surface resistivity, volume resistivity, and good tracking resistance over a wide temperature range.
- Insulating Components: Its UL 94 HB rating and temperature index (electrical 110°C, mechanical 90°C) support its use in insulating parts for electrical devices.
Data Evidence: The material’s relative permittivity and dissipation factor, as tested per ISO 11403, ensure reliable performance in electrical insulation applications.
- 5. Extruded Profiles and Semi-Finished Products:
Hostaform® C 2521’s stiff-flowing nature makes it suitable for extrusion into profiles and semi-finished products.- Pipes and Tubes: Used in fluid transport systems where chemical and hydrolysis resistance are required, such as in plumbing or industrial fluid management.
- Structural Profiles: Its high rigidity and low thermal expansion (flow and transverse) make it ideal for extruded structural components in machinery or construction.
Data Evidence: The recommended annealing process (130–140°C, 10 min/mm thickness) for thick-walled profiles reduces internal stress, ensuring dimensional stability in extruded parts.
