CELANESE HOSTAFORM C 27021 Standard POM Resin

CELANESE HOSTAFORM C 27021 is a high-flow, low-emission polyoxymethylene (POM) copolymer manufactured by Celanese.

Physical Properties

  • Density: As per ISO 1183, the density is 1.41 g/cc (0.0509 lb/in³), specifying the material’s mass per unit volume.
  • Density of Compound: The compound density measures 1.20 g/cc (0.0434 lb/in³), indicating a lower density than the base material.
  • Water Absorption at Saturation: Following ISO 62, the material absorbs 0.65% water at saturation, reflecting its maximum moisture retention.
  • Linear Mold Shrinkage, Flow: Per ISO 294-4, flow-direction shrinkage is 0.019 cm/cm (0.019 in/in) for molded parts during processing.
  • Linear Mold Shrinkage, Transverse: Transverse shrinkage is 0.018 cm/cm (0.018 in/in) as per ISO 294-4, showing slight variation from the flow direction.
  • Melt Flow: At 190 °C (374 °F) under a 2.16 kg (4.76 lb) load, the melt flow rate is 24 g/10 min (ISO 1133), indicating processability.

Polymer Properties:

  • Base Material: Polyoxymethylene (POM)
  • Modification Features
    • Shows strong resistance to chemicals, ideal for chemically aggressive applications.
    • Maintains excellent dimensional stability, ensuring accurate part dimensions.
    • Boasts high rigidity and hardness, providing robust structural support.

Applications:

  1. Automotive Interiors:
Hostaform® C 27021 is widely used in automotive interior components due to its low-emission properties (VDA 275 compliant) and UV resistance (in XAP2® LS variants). such as:
    • Ventilation system components: Louvers, air vent grilles, and ducting parts benefit from the material’s rigidity (Tensile Modulus: ~2,700 MPa) and low friction.
    • Control knobs and switches: The high hardness (Ball Indentation Hardness: ~140 MPa) ensures durability under repeated use.
    • Fasteners and clips: The material’s toughness (Charpy Unnotched Impact Strength: ~100 kJ/m²) supports reliable snap-fit designs.
  2.  Precision Engineering:
The high rigidity and dimensional stability of Hostaform® C 27021 make it ideal for precision engineering applications, such as:
    • Gears and bearings: The material’s low friction (dynamic coefficient of friction ~0.2–0.3) and wear resistance support long-term performance in moving parts.
    • Housings for small mechanical devices: Its low molding shrinkage (1.8–2.0%) ensures tight tolerances for components like pump housings and valve bodies.
  3. Electrical and Electronic Components:
Hostaform® C 27021 is used in electrical and electronic applications due to its excellent electrical insulation properties and thermal stability:
    • Connectors and terminal blocks: The material’s high dielectric strength (~30 kV/mm) and volume resistivity (~10¹⁴ Ω·cm) ensure reliable insulation.
    • Switchgear components: Its thermal stability (DTUL at 1.8 MPa: ~100°C) supports performance in high-temperature environments.
  4.  Consumer Goods and Domestic Appliances:
The resin’s aesthetic finish, toughness, and chemical resistance make it suitable for consumer goods:
    • Appliance components: Parts like handles, latches, and hinges in washing machines and refrigerators benefit from the material’s resistance to detergents and stress cracking.
    • Sporting goods: Components like buckles and sliders leverage the material’s high resilience and impact strength.
  5. Industrial Components:
The material’s combination of chemical resistance and mechanical strength supports industrial applications:
    • Conveyor system parts: Rollers and guides benefit from low friction and wear resistance.
    • Fluid handling systems: Pump impellers and valve components utilize the material’s hydrolysis resistance and low water absorption.
