CELANESE HOSTAFORM C 13031 Standard POM Resin
CELANESE HOSTAFORM C 13031 is a POM polymer by Celanese, known for its chemical resistance and dimensional stability.
Physical Properties
- Density: Measured in accordance with ISO 1183 standards, the material’s density is determined to be 1.41 g/cc (0.0509 lb/in³), reflecting its mass per unit volume.
- Water Absorption at Saturation: As per ISO 62, the material absorbs 0.65% water at saturation, indicating its moisture retention capacity when fully immersed.
- Linear Mold Shrinkage, Flow: Using ISO 294-4, the flow-direction shrinkage for molded parts is measured at 0.020 cm/cm (0.020 in/in), critical for dimensional stability in processing.
- Linear Mold Shrinkage, Transverse: In compliance with ISO 294-4, the transverse shrinkage is 0.018 cm/cm (0.018 in/in), highlighting directional differences in molded component contraction.
- Melt Flow: Under ISO 1133 at 190°C (374°F) with a 2.16 kg (4.76 lb) load, the melt flow rate is 12 g/10 min [cm³/10min], indicating processability for injection molding applications.
Polymer Properties:
- Base Material: Polyoxymethylene (POM)
- Key Features & Characteristics:
- High Mechanical Strength: This material offers excellent strength and stiffness, making it suitable for durable parts that must withstand significant stress, impact, and fatigue.
- High Viscosity: Its higher melt viscosity is ideal for extrusion, as it prevents melt fracture and enables the production of consistent, thick-walled profiles, rods, sheets, and pipes.
- Excellent Chemical Resistance: It resists a wide range of chemicals, including fuels, oils, and common solvents, which is crucial for industrial and automotive parts.
- Low Friction and Wear: The material has a naturally low coefficient of friction, making it a great choice for moving parts that slide or rotate against each other without needing external lubrication.
- Dimensional Stability: With very low moisture absorption, parts maintain their precise dimensions over time, ensuring reliable performance in various environments.
Applications:
The high viscosity, toughness, and chemical resistance of Hostaform C 13031 make it an ideal material for a variety of extruded and blow-molded products.
- Pipes and Fittings: It’s well-suited for hot and cold water pipes, fittings, and industrial fluid transfer systems due to its durability and chemical resistance.
- Extruded Profiles: Used to produce high-strength profiles, rods, and sheets for industrial and structural applications.
- Automotive Components: The resin is used for blow-molding small to medium-sized fuel tanks and fluid reservoirs in automotive and industrial equipment.
- Cable Ties and Wire Insulation: Its high strength and good elongation make it a reliable material for durable cable ties and wire jacketing.
Processing Guidelines
Hostaform C 13031 is optimized for extrusion and blow molding. Proper drying is important to ensure optimal processing and part quality.
- Drying: Although POM has very low moisture absorption, it’s recommended to dry the material at 80°C for 3 hours to remove any surface moisture.
- Melt Temperature: 190-210°C
- Die/Mold Temperature: 60-90°C
