BASF Ultraform H4320 Q600 POM Resin

BASF Ultraform H4320 Q600 is a high-molecular-weight polyoxymethylene (POM) grade specifically designed for extrusion processes.

Physical Properties

  • Density: Measured following ISO 1183, the density of this POM is 1.39 g/cc (0.0502 lb/in³). The density influences the weight and bulk properties of products made from this material.
  • Water Absorption: Based on ISO 62 standard, the water absorption is 0.80 %. High water absorption can potentially lead to swelling or degradation in some applications.
  • Moisture Absorption at Equilibrium: At 23°C and 50% RH as per ISO 62, the moisture absorption at equilibrium is 0.20 %. It is an important factor for maintaining dimensional stability in normal conditions.
  • Melt Flow: As per ISO 1133, at 190 °C (374 °F) with a 2.16 kg (4.76 lb) load, the melt flow rate is 26 g/10 min. A higher melt flow rate can facilitate faster processing in extrusion applications.

Polymer Properties:

  1. Base Material: Polyoxymethylene (POM)
  2. Modification Features
    • High molecular weight, enabling high extrusion rates for thick – walled products.
    • Exhibits high thermal stability, maintaining its properties at elevated temperatures.
    • Has a low tendency to discolor, ensuring product aesthetics over time.

Applications:

  1. Automotive Manufacturing
    • Ultraform® H4320 Q600 is widely used in the automotive industry for components requiring durability, precision, and resistance to harsh conditions.
    • Fuel System Components: Thick-walled tubes resistant to fuels and chemicals, used in fuel lines or related systems.
    • Interior and Exterior Parts: Panels and profiles for automotive interiors and exteriors, benefiting from high surface quality and dimensional stability for modern designs.
  2. Household and Recreation
    • Ultraform® H4320 Q600’s resistance to hot water and mechanical stress makes it suitable for household and recreational applications:
    • Plumbing Fixtures: Extruded tubes and profiles are used in plumbing systems, such as inserts for showerheads or components in water heaters, due to their hydrolysis resistance and ability to withstand elevated temperatures.
    • Recreational Equipment: Durable profiles for outdoor or sports equipment, where toughness and weathering resistance are essential.
  3. Medical Technology (Non-PRO Grade Applications)
    • While Ultraform® PRO grades are typically used for medical applications, H4320 Q600 can be applied in non-critical medical components where regulatory approvals (e.g., drinking water or food contact) are not required:
    • Equipment Housings: Extruded panels or profiles for medical device casings, benefiting from dimensional stability and chemical resistance.
    • Structural Supports: Thick-walled components for diagnostic or therapeutic equipment, where mechanical reliability is key.
  4. Other Industrial Applications
    • Electrical and Antistatic Components: Grades with improved surface resistivity can be extruded into profiles for antistatic or electrically conductive devices, preventing electrostatic discharge in sensitive environments.
    • Custom Extruded Profiles: Used in various industries for tailored solutions, such as conveyor belts, protective covers, or structural elements, where thick-walled, high-strength components are needed.
