SABIC LEXAN EX1632T PC Resin
SABIC LEXAN™ EX1632T PC is a high-performance polycarbonate resin specifically designed for multi-wall sheet and profile extrusion applications.
Physical Properties
- Density: Measured using the standard test method ISO 1183, the density of the material is determined to be 1.19 g/cc (0.0430 lb/in³).
- Linear Mold Shrinkage, Flow: Measured by the SABIC method at 3.20 mm thickness, it is 0.0050 – 0.0070 cm/cm (0.0050 – 0.0070 in/in).
- Melt Flow:Per ASTM D1238, the material’s melt flow rate is 6.0 g/10 min under a 1.20 kg (2.65 lb) load at 300 °C (572 °F).
Polymer Properties:
- Base Material: Polycarbonate (PC)
- Key Characteristics:
- Branched Polymer Structure: The presence of branched polycarbonate chains in the resin provides enhanced melt strength and stability.
- UV Stabilization: The resin is formulated with a UV stabilizer, which provides excellent resistance to degradation and yellowing from prolonged sunlight exposure.
- High Impact Strength: As with other LEXAN™ grades, EX1632T offers outstanding impact resistance, which helps the final product withstand physical stress and harsh conditions without breaking or cracking.
- Excellent Optical Properties: The material can be extruded into profiles and sheets with high clarity and light transmission, making it suitable for applications where optical performance is important.
Applications:
Given these properties, LEXAN™ EX1632T is primarily used in the following applications:
- Multi-wall Sheet: The resin is used to produce lightweight yet strong multi-wall sheets for applications like greenhouses, conservatory roofing, and transparent building cladding.
- Profile Extrusion: It is used to create complex, structural profiles for window and door frames, as well as components for lighting fixtures and other industrial applications.
- Architectural and Construction Glazing: Its UV stability and impact resistance make it an excellent material for glazing in public buildings, bus shelters, and protective barriers.
- Lighting Components: The resin is used to create durable, transparent or translucent covers and diffusers for outdoor lighting, where its weather resistance is a key advantage.
