SABIC LEXAN LS2 PC Resin
SABIC LEXAN™ LS2 is a specialized polycarbonate (PC) resin that belongs to the “Light-Stabilized” (LS) family, specifically engineered for lighting and optical applications.
Physical Properties
- Specific Gravity: Tested per ASTM D792, the material’s specific gravity is 1.20 g/cc, reflecting its density relative to water.
- Water Absorption: Per ASTM D570, the material absorbs 0.15% moisture after 24 hours, indicating low short-term water uptake.
- Linear Mold Shrinkage, Flow:Using SABIC method for 3.20 mm (0.126 in) thickness, flow-direction shrinkage is 0.0050–0.0070 cm/cm (in/in).
- Melt Flow: As per ASTM D1238, the melt flow rate is 11 g/10 min under a 1.20 kg (2.65 lb) load at 300 °C (572 °F).
Polymer Properties:
- Base Material: Polycarbonate (PC)
- Modification Features:
- Medium viscosity offering a balance of flow and mechanical properties.
- UV – stabilized to withstand outdoor exposure in automotive environments.
- Transparent colors only, suitable for optical parts in vehicles.
Applications:
Given these properties, LEXAN™ LS2 is primarily used in the following applications:
- LED Lamp Covers and Lenses: Its optical clarity, UV stability, and heat resistance make it an ideal material for the covers and lenses of LED lamps, ensuring both long-term performance and efficiency.
- Light Diffusers: The resin can be used to create sheets or molded parts that diffuse light evenly, eliminating hot spots and providing a more uniform and pleasant lighting experience.
- Street Lighting and Outdoor Fixtures: Its weather resistance and impact strength make it suitable for a wide range of outdoor lighting applications, including streetlights, security lighting, and architectural lighting.
- Architectural Glazing: It can be used for transparent or translucent building panels, skylights, and windows where light transmission and durability are required.
