SABIC LEXAN OQ4320R PC Resin
SABIC LEXAN™ OQ4320R is a high-performance polycarbonate (PC) resin specifically engineered for optical quality (OQ) applications.
Physical Properties
- Specific Gravity: Tested per ASTM D792, the material’s specific gravity is 1.20 g/cc, reflecting its density relative to water.
- Water Absorption: After 24 hours per ASTM D570, the material absorbs 0.15%, indicating low short-term moisture uptake.
- Linear Mold Shrinkage, Flow: SABIC method yields 0.0050–0.0070 cm/cm (in/in) flow-direction shrinkage for 3.20 mm (0.126 in) thickness.
- Melt Flow: As per ASTM D1238, the melt flow rate is 12.5 g/10 min under a 1.20 kg (2.65 lb) load at 300 °C (572 °F).
Polymer Properties:
- Base Material: Polycarbonate (PC)
- Modification Features:
- Optical grade with UV cut – off up to 400 nm for effective sun protection.
- Higher optical purity than standard grades for clear vision.
- Contains internal mold release for smooth production of optical parts.
Applications:
Given these properties, LEXAN™ OQ4320R is primarily used in the following applications:
- Optical Lenses: It is a preferred material for lenses in cameras, eyewear, and other optical instruments where clarity and precision are non-negotiable.
- Display Windows: The resin is used for transparent windows and shields in electronic displays, monitors, and point-of-sale systems where high clarity and durability are required.
- Lighting Components: Its optical purity and heat resistance make it an excellent material for high-end light guides, lenses, and diffusers in specialized lighting applications.
- Medical and Diagnostic Optics: It is also used for transparent components in medical devices and diagnostic equipment that require high precision and clarity.
