SABIC P4808NA HDPE Multimodal Resin
SABIC P4808NA is a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) resin with a multimodal molecular weight distribution, specifically engineered for pipe extrusion.
Physical Properties
- Density: In accordance with the ASTM D1505 standard, the density is 0.949 g/cc (0.0343 lb/in³). It affects the material’s physical and chemical behavior in non – pressure pipe applications.
- Oxidative Induction Time (OIT): Following the EN 728 standard, at 210 °C (410 °F), the OIT is ≥ 20 minutes. This shows good resistance to oxidative aging.
- Melt Flow: Tested by the ISO 1133 standard at 190 °C (374 °F), it’s 0.23 g/10 min at a 5.00 kg load and 6.5 g/10 min at a 21.6 kg load. These values help optimize the extrusion process.
Polymer Properties:
- Base Material: High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)
- Key Features:
- Superior Long-Term Hydrostatic Strength: This is the most critical property for pressure pipe materials.
- High Resistance to Rapid Crack Propagation (RCP): The multimodal structure gives the material a high resistance to fast-moving cracks, a crucial safety feature for gas and water pipes.
- Excellent Stress Crack Resistance: This grade provides superior resistance to environmental stress cracking, protecting pipes from failure caused by external factors like soil stress or exposure to chemicals.
Applications:
SABIC P4808NA is a reliable and safe solution for a variety of critical pressure pipe applications:
- Potable Water Supply Systems
- This is a primary application for P4808NA. The material is safe for drinking water and its high strength ensures the longevity of municipal and residential water networks.
- Natural Gas Distribution Networks
- The high resistance to RCP and long-term strength make it a top choice for gas pipelines, ensuring safety and preventing gas leaks over decades of use.
- Industrial and Process Piping
- SABIC P4808NA is also used for pipes transporting various industrial fluids and chemicals, where its excellent chemical resistance is a key advantage.
