Applications:

  1. Automotive Components
    • Duracon® M270-44 is extensively used in automotive applications due to its durability, chemical resistance, and ability to replace metal components. Specific uses include:
      • Door Locks and Latches: The material’s high strength and wear resistance ensure reliable performance in vehicle safety systems. Its self-lubricating properties reduce maintenance needs.
      • Seatbelt Locking Mechanisms: The copolymer’s toughness and thermal stability withstand repetitive stress and environmental exposure, critical for safety-critical components.
      • Fuel System Components: Oil and chemical resistance make it ideal for fuel system parts, such as pump housings and valve components, where exposure to hydrocarbons is common.
      • Data Support: According to Polyplastics, Duracon® POM grades, including M270-44, are used in automotive applications requiring high flow and fast molding cycles, with a global market share of nearly 19% among POM manufacturers. The material’s mechanical properties, such as a tensile strength of approximately 60-70 MPa and a flexural modulus of around 2,500-3,000 MPa (based on typical POM copolymer data), ensure performance under automotive stress conditions.
  2. Industrial Machinery Components
    • The high-flow characteristics and mechanical strength of Duracon® M270-44 make it a preferred material for precision machinery components.
      • Gears, Screws, and Bearings: Originally developed to replace steel components, its self-lubricating properties and wear resistance reduce friction and extend component lifespan. The high-flow grade allows for intricate designs with thinner walls, improving production efficiency.
      • Conveyor System Parts: The material’s low friction and durability are ideal for rollers and guides in conveyor systems.
      • Data Support: The high-flow nature of M270-44 allows for a reduction in molding cycle time by up to 20% compared to standard POM grades, as noted in industry datasheets. This contributes to cost-effective manufacturing. Additionally, its notched Izod impact strength (typically 5-7 kJ/m² for POM copolymers) ensures durability in dynamic applications.
  3. Consumer Goods
    • Duracon® M270-44’s excellent surface finish and moldability make it suitable for everyday household products.
      • Zippers: The material’s smooth surface and wear resistance ensure long-lasting performance in apparel and luggage zippers.
      • Toothbrush Components: Its chemical resistance and ability to achieve fine details in molding make it ideal for toothbrush handles and bristle bases.
      • Data Support: The grade’s ability to achieve excellent surface finish at lower mold temperatures reduces production costs and improves aesthetic quality, as highlighted by Polyplastics. The material’s low coefficient of friction (typically 0.1-0.3 for POM) ensures smooth operation in sliding components like zippers.
  4. Electrical and Electronic Components
    • The electrical properties and dimensional stability of Duracon® M270-44 make it suitable for precision electronic components.
      • Connectors and Housings: Its high flowability allows for the production of complex, thin-walled parts with tight tolerances, critical for electrical connectors.
      • Switch Components: The material’s dielectric strength (typically 18-20 kV/mm for POM) and thermal stability support its use in electrical switches.
      • Data Support: Material Data Center notes that Duracon® M270-44 offers detailed electrical property data, including dielectric strength and volume resistivity, ensuring reliability in electronic applications.
