DUPONT DELRIN 100P POM Resin

DUPONT Delrin 100P is a high-molecular-weight homopolymer polyoxymethylene (POM) material produced by DuPont.

Physical Properties

  • Density: Measured following the ISO 1183 standard, it serves as a key property affecting product weight and molding quality, with a value of 1.42 g/cc (0.0513 lb/in³).
  • Melt Density: At 215 °C, its value of 1.19 g/cc (0.0430 lb/in³) is crucial for controlling processes like injection molding during melt – processing.
  • Water Absorption: With 0.40 % absorption in 86400 seconds and 1.4 % at 2.00 mm thickness, it impacts the dimensional stability of products in humid conditions.
  • Moisture Absorption: At 2.00 mm thickness, the 0.300 % moisture absorption influences the mechanical and electrical properties of the material over time.
  • Linear Mold Shrinkage: Measured according to ISO 294 – 4 and 2577, it has values of 0.022 cm/cm in the flow direction and 0.019 cm/cm transversely, which are vital for mold design.
  • Melt Flow:  Measured by ISO 1133, the melt flow rate at 190 °C under a 2.16 kg load is 2.1 g/10 min (in cm³/10 min) and also 2.5 g/10 min, reflecting the material’s flowability during molding.

Polymer Properties:

  • Base Material: Polyoxymethylene (POM)
  • Key Features & Characteristics:
    • High strength and stiffness, providing robust load – bearing capabilities.
    • Exceptional chemical resistance, enabling use in diverse chemical environments.
    • Low friction coefficient, ideal for components with sliding or moving parts.
    • Good fatigue resistance, allowing it to endure repeated stress without failure.

Applications:

The combination of high toughness, low friction, and reduced formaldehyde emissions makes Delrin 100P a top choice for demanding, long-life applications, especially in environments where worker safety is a priority.

  • Automotive Components: Ideal for under-the-hood parts, fuel system components, and automotive trim that must withstand high stress and environmental exposure.
  • Industrial Components: Used for precision gears, bearing housings, conveyor chain links, and pump parts where low friction, wear resistance, and high strength are critical.
  • Consumer Goods: Suitable for durable, moving parts in appliances, toys, and other consumer products that see frequent use.
  • Extruded Products: Excellent for producing high-strength profiles, rods, and sheets used in a wide range of industrial and structural applications.

Processing Guidelines

Delrin 100P is optimized for both injection molding and extrusion. Proper drying is crucial to ensure optimal processing and part quality.

  • Drying: While not always required, pre-drying at 80°C for 2-4 hours is recommended, especially for long-term storage or high humidity conditions.
  • Melt Temperature: 190-210°C
  • Mold Temperature: 80-100°C
