Dow DOWLEX™ 2045G LLDPE Resin
DOWLEX™ 2045G, produced by Dow, is a linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) resin designed for the production of high-performance films used in a wide range of industrial and consumer applications.
Physical Properties
- Density: Measured by ASTM D792, the density is 0.920 g/cc (0.0332 lb/in³). It provides a balance of stiffness and flexibility for packaging.
- Thickness: With a thickness of 50.8 microns (2.00 mil), it offers enhanced durability. It can resist punctures well, making it suitable for packaging items that need extra protection during handling.
- Melt Flow: According to ASTM D1238, the melt flow rate is 1.0 g/10 min. This rate ensures good processability during manufacturing, allowing for consistent shaping of the material into products.
Polymer Properties:
- Base Material: Ethylene – based copolymer (LLDPE)
- Modification Features:
- Has a molecular structure friendly to conventional machinery, facilitating processing.
- Incorporates tear – resistant additives, making it suitable for durable industrial films.
- Boasts optimized optical properties, ideal for clear consumer packaging.
- Is formulated for a variety of films, excluding silage stretch.
Applications:
DOWLEX™ 2045G is tailored for blown film extrusion and is widely used in the following applications:
- Industrial Films:DOWLEX™ 2045G is extensively employed in industrial film applications due to its robust mechanical properties and processability. Specific uses include:
- Geomembranes: Used in environmental applications like landfill liners, pond liners, and canal linings, where chemical stability and durability are critical to prevent leakage and withstand environmental stresses.
- Industrial Liners: Suitable for drum and box liners in industries requiring protection from moisture, chemicals, or abrasion, ensuring product integrity during storage and transport.
- Construction Films: Employed in vapor barriers, protective coverings, and temporary enclosures due to its tear resistance and ability to form thin, yet strong films.
- Consumer Films:DOWLEX™ 2045G is also widely used in consumer-oriented applications, where its balance of flexibility, strength, and clarity provides significant advantages:
- Food Packaging: Its compliance with FDA and EU regulations for food contact makes it suitable for flexible food packaging, such as frozen food bags, produce bags, and snack packaging.
- Shopping Bags: The resin’s toughness and tear resistance make it ideal for reusable and single-use shopping bags, capable of carrying heavy loads without breaking.
- Trash Bags: Used in the production of high-strength trash bags for household and commercial use, offering resistance to punctures from sharp objects and durability under heavy loads.
- Heavy-Duty Film Applications:The resin’s ability to produce thin films with robust profiles makes it a preferred choice for heavy-duty applications:
- Agricultural Films: Used in greenhouse films and mulch films, where durability, tear resistance, and chemical stability are essential to withstand outdoor conditions and chemical exposure.
- Pallet Wrap: Provides secure wrapping for industrial pallets, ensuring stability during transportation and storage.
- Protective Packaging: Employed in bubble wrap or protective films for fragile items, offering cushioning and resistance to punctures.
