SABIC 218WJ is a butene-based Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) resin designed for general-purpose packaging applications.
Physical Properties
- Density: The density is 0.918 g/cc (0.0332 lb/in³), and it is measured according to ASTM D1505.
- Melt Flow: The melt flow is 2.0 g/10 min at a load of 2.16 kg and a temperature of 190°C (equivalent to 2.0 g/10 min at a load of 4.76 lb and a temperature of 374°F), and it is measured according to ASTM D1238.
Polymer Properties:
- Base Material: Linear Low – Density Polyethylene (LLDPE)
- Modification Features:
- Superior tear resistance, making it durable in applications where tearing is a concern.
- Good stress – crack resistance, ensuring long – term integrity under stress.
- Good clarity for applications where visual appearance matters, like some consumer product packaging.
- Good compatibility with additives for further property enhancement.
Applications:
SABIC 218WJ is primarily used in blown film applications where the inclusion of slip and anti-block additives is a benefit.
- Lamination Films: The resin’s properties make it an excellent component for lamination films, where it can be combined with other layers to create high-performance packaging.
- Thin Liners: It’s suitable for producing thin, protective liners for various products or containers.
- Shopping Bags and Carrier Bags: The good tensile and impact properties, combined with the additives for easy handling, make it an ideal material for durable shopping and carrier bags.
- Garbage Bags: The toughness and puncture resistance are well-suited for manufacturing strong, reliable garbage bags.
- Coextruded Films: It can be used as a layer in multi-layer coextruded films to achieve specific performance characteristics.
- Consumer Packaging: This grade is used for a broad range of consumer packaging applications, especially where the film’s appearance and handling are important.
- Agricultural Films: Its robust mechanical properties and processability make it a viable option for certain agricultural films, such as greenhouse films or liners.
