Styrolution® PS 2710 HIPS
The specialty High Impact Polystyrene engineered for superior Environmental Stress Cracking Resistance (ESCR) and long-term durability.
Engineered for Reliability
Styrolution® PS 2710 is a high-performance, amorphous thermoplastic polymer designed to meet the rigorous demands of the appliance industry.Originally developed by BASF and now part of the INEOS Styrolution portfolio. Its unique two-phase microstructure, consisting of a rigid polystyrene matrix with dispersed polybutadiene rubber particles, provides an exceptional balance of stiffness, processability, and impact strength.
The core value of PS 2710 lies in its formulation to resist chemical and mechanical attack, ensuring the integrity and longevity of your products, especially in challenging environments like refrigerator liners exposed to polyurethane blowing agents and food oils.
Improved ESCR
Specifically formulated to resist chemical attack from blowing agents (e.g., cyclopentane) and food fats, preventing crazing and premature failure.
Balanced Mechanical Properties
An optimal blend of rigidity for self-support, excellent toughness to resist impacts (even at low temperatures), and high ductility.

Target Applications
Thanks to its unique performance profile, Styrolution® PS 2710 is the premier choice for specialty applications where chemical resistance and toughness are paramount.
The primary application. Ideal for sheet extrusion and thermoforming of inner and door liners that withstand PU foam insulation and food contact.
An excellent candidate for containers holding oily foods and dairy products, where standard styrenics may fail due to stress cracking.
Suitable for any sheet extrusion application that demands enhanced durability, chemical resistance, and impact strength.

Processing & Safety Guidelines
Recommended Processing
-
Melt Temperature
180 - 260°C (356 - 500°F). Use the lowest possible temperature for acceptable parts to minimize VOC emissions.
-
Drying
Pre-drying at 70-80°C for 2-3 hours is recommended to prevent surface defects from condensation.
-
Fabrication Methods
Optimized for sheet extrusion and subsequent thermoforming. Also suitable for injection molding.
Health & Safety
Always consult the material-specific Safety Data Sheet (SDS) from INEOS Styrolution before handling.
-
Thermal Processing
Molten polymer causes severe burns. Use local exhaust ventilation to control volatile emissions (e.g., styrene monomer).
-
Regulatory Compliance
Users must obtain official Food Contact, REACH, and RoHS declarations from INEOS Styrolution for their specific region and application.
