NatureWorks 3D700 is a Polylactic Acid (PLA) resin specifically developed by NatureWorks LLC for use in 3D printing filament and extrusion applications.
Physical Properties
- Specific Gravity: Tested per ASTM D792, the specific gravity is 1.24 g/cc, indicating the material’s density relative to water.
- Melt Flow at 210 °C (410 °F): As per ASTM D1238, the melt flow rate under a 2.16 kg (4.76 lb) load ranges from 9.00–12.0 g/10 min.
Polymer Properties:
- Base Material: Polylactic Acid (PLA)
- Key Features:
- Optimized Melt Rheology: Provides stable and consistent filament extrusion, minimizing nozzle clogging and improving print quality.
- Low Volatile Content: Ensures less odor during printing and a safer working environment.
- Improved Impact Resistance: Produces parts with higher durability and less brittleness compared to standard PLA grades.
- Fast Crystallization: Allows for faster printing speeds with less risk of warping and improved dimensional stability.
Applications:
NatureWorks 3D700 is specifically formulated for Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) and Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) 3D printing. Its combination of improved impact strength and optimized flow properties makes it ideal for a wide range of end-use parts, including:
- Prototypes and Functional Parts: The enhanced durability and dimensional stability of 3D700 make it suitable for creating robust prototypes and functional components that require some degree of impact resistance.
- Art and Architectural Models: Its low warping and excellent layer adhesion allow for the production of detailed and intricate models.
- Jigs, Fixtures, and Tooling: The material’s rigidity and improved toughness are beneficial for creating custom tools and manufacturing aids.
- Toys and Consumer Goods: The resin’s properties are well-suited for durable consumer products and children’s toys where safety and longevity are important.
Processing Guidelines
NatureWorks 3D700 is designed for easy extrusion into filament and straightforward printing. It can be processed on a variety of 3D printing machines.
- Recommended Extrusion Temperature (Filament Production): 175-190 °C
- Recommended Print Temperature: 190-220 °C
- Recommended Bed Temperature: 20-60 °C (heated bed is optional but recommended for larger prints to prevent warping)
- Drying: The resin should be dried to a moisture content of <250 ppm before processing to prevent hydrolysis. Recommended drying conditions are 4 hours at 40 °C.
