DUPONT DELRIN 520MP POM Resin
DUPONT Delrin 520MP is a POM by DuPont, with 20% Teflon lubrication for low wear and friction, suitable for automotive, industrial, and aerospace uses.
Physical Properties
- Density: Measured by the ISO 1183 standard, it is 1.54 g/cc (0.0556 lb/in³), providing a basis for calculating material volume – mass relationships.
- Linear Mold Shrinkage: In the flow direction, it is 0.019 cm/cm; transversely, it is 0.015 cm/cm as per ISO 294 – 4 and 2577, which is crucial for mold design.
- Melt Flow: At 190 °C under a 2.16 kg load, it is 8.0 g/10 min according to ISO 1133, indicating its flowability during the molding process.
Polymer Properties:
- Base Material: Polyoxymethylene (POM)
- Key Features & Characteristics:
- Enhanced Impact Resistance: This grade is specifically formulated with an impact modifier for improved toughness, making it more robust against sudden shocks and drops compared to standard POM grades.
- Good Balance of Stiffness and Strength: It provides high tensile and flexural strength, giving parts a strong, rigid structure while retaining the flexibility to resist brittle fracture.
- Excellent Processability: Its lower viscosity allows for a good balance between flow and mechanical strength, making it easier to process than higher-viscosity grades.
- Low Friction and Wear: Like other Delrin grades, this material has a naturally low coefficient of friction and excellent wear resistance, making it ideal for moving parts that slide or rotate against each other without external lubrication.
- Dimensional Stability: With very low moisture absorption, parts molded from this resin maintain their precise dimensions over time, ensuring reliable performance in various environments.
Applications:
The combination of enhanced toughness, good mechanical properties, and excellent processability makes Delrin 520MP a versatile material for a wide range of durable and demanding applications.
- Automotive Components: Ideal for interior and under-the-hood parts that need to be both strong and impact-resistant, such as gearshift levers, seat components, and snap-fit assemblies.
- Industrial Components: Used for robust parts in machinery, power tool casings, and conveyor systems that are prone to accidental drops or impacts.
- Consumer Goods and Toys: Suitable for durable, moving parts in appliances, toys, and sports equipment that are subject to frequent use and rough handling.
- Precision Engineering: Employed in precision gears and mechanical linkages where a balance of strength and toughness is required.
