DUPONT DELRIN 911P POM Resin
DUPONT DELRIN 911P is a high-flow polyoxymethylene (POM) homopolymer produced by DuPont, designed for precision injection molding of intricate and thin-walled parts.
Physical Properties
- Specific Gravity: Measured by the ASTM D792 standard, the 1.42 g/cc specific gravity is used to compare the material’s density with other materials.
- Density: Based on the ISO 1183 standard, the density of 1.42 g/cc (0.0513 lb/in³) is consistent with the specific gravity, helping determine material quantity.
- Water Absorption: Absorbing 0.28 % after 24 – hour immersion, 0.97 % at saturation, and 0.20 % at 50% RH equilibrium, it affects product performance.
- Linear Mold Shrinkage: Ranging from 0.014 – 0.020 cm/cm depending on thickness and time as per ASTM D955 and ISO 294 – 4, it is crucial for mold design.
- Melt Flow: Measured by ASTM D1238 at 190 °C under a 1.05 kg load, it is 11 g/10 min, and by ISO 1133 at 190 °C under a 2.16 kg load, the melt flow rates are 21 g/10 min (in cm3/10 min) and 25 g/10 min.
Polymer Properties:
- Base Material: Polyoxymethylene (POM)
- Key Features & Characteristics:
- Exceptional Flowability: High-flow formulation enables easy filling of complex mold cavities.
- Good Mechanical Strength: Maintains balanced tensile/flexural strength for durability, even with high flow.
- Low Friction & Wear: Natural self-lubrication (low COF) suits sliding/rotating parts without lubrication.
- Reduced Formaldehyde Emission: “P” grade minimizes off-gassing for safer processing and less ventilation.
Applications:
The combination of very high flow, good mechanical properties, and reduced formaldehyde emissions makes DUPONT DELRIN 911P a top choice for a variety of intricate and high-precision applications.
- Automotive Components: Ideal for small, complex parts like gears in power windows, dashboard controls, and fuel caps that require high precision and durability.
- Consumer Electronics: Suitable for parts in mobile device enclosures, laptop housings, and printer housings where high-precision, thin-walled components are needed.
- Precision Engineering: Used for tiny, intricate parts in toys, lock components, and and precision gears where a clean fill and minimal cycle time are essential.
- Electrical and Electronic Parts: Employed in small electrical connectors and switch housings where intricate geometry and durability are required.
