Chevron Phillips Marlex 9503H HDPE Resin

Chevron Phillips Marlex 9503H is a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) resin engineered for blow molding applications.

Physical Properties

  • Density: According to ASTM D1505, the density is 0.946 g/cc (0.0342 lb/in³), which affects the resin’s physical and mechanical properties.
  • ESCR 100% Igepal®: Tested under Conditions A and B in line with ASTM D1693, it has an ESCR of >= 1000 hours, showing high resistance.
  • Melt Index of Compound: Measured under 190/2.16 by ASTM D1238, it is 0.31 g/10 min, influencing its flowability during processing.

Polymer Properties:

  • Base Material:High – density ethylene – hexene copolymer
  • Key Properties:
    • High molecular weight contributes to excellent strength and durability.
    • High specific gravity provides substantial mass and stability.
    • Offers high impact resistance for tough usage conditions.
    • Exhibits stress crack resistance, enhancing long – term reliability.
    • Is a recyclable material, meeting environmental sustainability needs.

Applications:

The combination of high stiffness, low melt index, and outstanding stress cracking resistance makes Marlex 9503H a versatile material for blow-molded containers used in various sectors.

  1. Household Chemical Containers: The material’s exceptional ESCR makes it ideal for bottles used to store detergents, cleaning agents, and other aggressive household chemicals without risk of premature cracking.
  2. Industrial and Agricultural Chemicals: For containers holding solvents, oils, pesticides, and fertilizers, the material’s durability and chemical resistance are critical for safe storage and transport.
  3. Food and Beverage Packaging: Marlex 9503H is often used for bottles containing food products and juices, as it meets stringent food contact regulations and provides a robust, taint-free packaging solution.
  4. Personal Care: It is a go-to material for shampoo, conditioner, and lotion bottles, where the products contain surfactants that could cause stress cracking in less-resistant materials.
  5. Fuel Tanks and Automotive Parts: In certain non-critical automotive applications, its chemical resistance and durability can be leveraged for small fuel tanks and fluid reservoirs.
