BASF ULTRAMID A3X2G5 PA66 Resin

BASF Ultramid A3X2G5 is a 25% glass fiber-reinforced PA66 with red phosphorus flame retardance, suited for durable industrial and electrical systems.

Physical Properties

  • Density: Determined by ISO 1183 as 1.34 g/cc (0.0484 lb/in³), the glass fiber content increases density while enhancing mechanical strength.
  • Water Absorption: At 5.7–6.3% per ISO 62, this value is slightly higher than unreinforced grades but remains suitable for flame-retardant applications.
  • Moisture Absorption at Equilibrium: Under 23°C/50% RH (ISO 62), the material retains 1.2–1.6% moisture, affecting dimensional stability in humid conditions.
  • Viscosity Number: Per ISO 307, the viscosity measures 140 cm³/g (1.40 dl/g), ensuring consistent melt behavior during injection molding.
  • Linear Mold Shrinkage: At 0.0050 cm/cm (0.0050 in/in), the glass fibers reduce shrinkage compared to unfilled PA66, suitable for moderate-precision parts.
  • Melt Flow: Under ISO 1133, the material flows at 53.6 g/10 min, enabling efficient production of intricate electrical components with reliable performance.

Polymer Properties:

  • Base Material: Polyamide 66 (PA66)
  • Reinforcement: 25% Glass Fiber
  • Key Features and Properties:
    • High Mechanical Strength and Rigidity: The 25% glass fiber reinforcement provides robust mechanical properties.
    • Excellent Flame Retardancy: Ultramid A3X2G5 is a flame-retardant grade designed to meet stringent safety standards.Superior
    • Heat Resistance: This material offers excellent thermal stability, with a heat deflection temperature (HDT) of approximately 250 °C under a load of 1.82 MPa (ISO 75-2).
    • Good Electrical Properties: As an electrically insulated material, it has a high comparative tracking index (CTI), typically over 400 V.
    • Dimensional Stability: The glass fiber reinforcement provides excellent dimensional stability and low warpage

Applications:

  1. Automotive Electronics: Used in engine connectors and flame-retardant wiring for high-heat, high-risk reliability.
  2. Industrial Machinery: Suitable for gears, bearings, and brackets that require long-term resistance to wear and tear in manufacturing or processing equipment.
  3. Aerospace Accessories: Employed in lightweight, fire-resistant interior components such as cabin panels or storage brackets for aircraft safety and efficiency.
