LG Chem ER460 ABS Resin

LG Chemical ER460 is an acrylonitrile – butadiene – styrene (ABS) polymer produced by LG Chemical.

Physical Properties

  • Specific Gravity: Measured per ASTM D792, the specific gravity is 1.05 g/cc (1.05 g/cc), indicating the material’s density relative to water.
  • Maximum Moisture Content: For injection molding, the maximum moisture content is 0.010 (unitless) to ensure compatibility with manufacturing processes.
  • Linear Mold Shrinkage, Flow: As per ASTM D955 at 3.20 mm (0.126 in) thickness, linear shrinkage in the flow direction ranges from 0.0040–0.0070 cm/cm (0.0040–0.0070 in/in).
  • Melt Flow: Following ASTM D1238, the melt flow rate is 23 g/10 min under a 10.0 kg (22.0 lb) load at 220 °C (428 °F), reflecting processability during molding.

Polymer Properties:

  • Base Material: Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) copolymer.
  • Modification Features:
    • Optimized for injection molding with high flowability for complex parts.
    • Offers medium heat resistance for moderate-temperature applications.
    • Provides good surface finish, reducing need for post-processing.
    • Delivers decent impact resistance from butadiene component.

Applications:

  • Automobile: Used for dashboard panels, door trims, and exterior moldings, offering medium heat resistance and high flowability for complex designs.
  • Motor Cycle: Employed in fairings, handlebar grips, and mirror housings, with heat resistance for engine areas and impact resistance for durability.
  • Electric & Electronic Goods: Suited for power tool casings, speaker enclosures, and small appliance housings, ensuring heat resistance and a smooth surface finish.
