Envalior Akulon F130 PA6 Resin

Envalior Akulon F130 is a Polyamide 6 (PA6) resin with a focus on extrusion and film production.

Physical Properties

  • Density: Measured using injection-molded samples in accordance with ISO 1183, the density is 1.13 g/cc (0.0408 lb/in³).
  • Water Vapor Transmission: For film at 23.0°C and 85% relative humidity, water vapor transmission is 35.0 g/m²/day (2.25 g/100 in²/day) as per DIS 15106-1/-3.
  • Oxygen Transmission: At 0% relative humidity, oxygen transmission for film is 1.30 cc-mm/m²-24hr-atm (3.30 cc-mil/100 in²-24hr-atm); at 85% RH, it is 1.90 cc-mm/m²-24hr-atm (4.83 cc-mil/100 in²-24hr-atm) per DIS 15105-1/-2.
  • Viscosity (Melt Viscosity): At 260 °C (500 °F), the melt viscosity is 810000 cP by DSM method; at shear rate 1000 1/s, viscosities are 300000 cP (280 °C/536 °F), 350000 cP (260 °C/500 °F), 400000 cP (240 °C/464 °F); at shear rate 0.1 1/s, viscosities are 600000 cP (280 °C/536 °F), 800000 cP (260 °C/500 °F), 1.05e+6 cP (240 °C/464 °F).
  • Viscosity Measurement: Measured as 3.03 via RSV formic acid (1g/100ml) and DSM method.
  • Viscosity Number: Determined by ISO 307, 1157, 1628, the viscosity number is 196 cm³/g (1.96 dl/g).
  • Thickness: The film thickness is 50.0 microns (1.97 mil).

Polymer Properties:

  • Base Material: Polyamide 6 (PA6)
  • Modification Features:
    • Medium viscosity for balanced film extrusion performance.
    • Suitable for cast film processes requiring stable melt flow.

Applications:

  1. High-Performance Film Packaging (BOPA)
    • The primary application for Akulon F130 is in the production of Biaxially Oriented Polyamide (BOPA) films.
    • This process stretches the film in two directions, significantly enhancing its mechanical properties and barrier performance.
    • Examples: Packaging for cheese, fish, meat, and other perishable foods that require a strong, hermetic seal and protection from oxygen.
  2. Medical and Pharmaceutical Packaging
    • Akulon F130’s resistance to sterilization processes and its robust mechanical properties make it a reliable choice for the medical industry.
    • Examples: Packaging for sterilized surgical instruments, medical syringes, and pharmaceutical products.
  3. Consumer Goods Packaging
    • Beyond food and medical uses, the resin is also used for consumer product films where its barrier and mechanical properties are beneficial.
    • Examples: Protective liners, laminates, and various flexible packaging solutions where durability and chemical resistance are required.
