Envalior Akulon F130-C PA6 Resin
Envalior Akulon F130-C is a lubricated, medium viscosity PA6 resin for film extrusion, previously from DSM Engineering Plastics.
Physical Properties
- Density: Measured via ISO 1183 for lubricated film extrusion, the density is 1.13 g/cc (0.0408 lb/in³).
- Water Vapor Transmission: At 23.0°C and 85% RH, water vapor transmission for lubricated film is 35.0 g/m²/day (2.25 g/100 in²/day) per DIS 15106-1/-3.
- Oxygen Transmission: For lubricated film, oxygen transmission is 1.30 cc-mm/m²-24hr-atm (0% RH) and 1.90 cc-mm/m²-24hr-atm (85% RH) per DIS 15105-1/-2.
- Viscosity: At 260 °C (500 °F), the melt viscosity is 810,000 cP by DSM method; at a shear rate of 1000 1/s, viscosities are 300,000 cP (280 °C/536 °F), 350,000 cP (260 °C/500 °F), and 400,000 cP (240 °C/464 °F); at a shear rate of 0.1 1/s, viscosities are 600,000 cP (280 °C/536 °F), 800,000 cP (260 °C/500 °F), and 1.05×10⁶ cP (240 °C/464 °F).
- Viscosity Number: As per ISO 307, 1157, and 1628, the viscosity number is 196 cm³/g (1.96 dl/g).
- Thickness: The film thickness is 50.0 microns (1.97 mil).
Polymer Properties:
- Base Material: Polyamide 6 (PA6)
- Modification Features:
- Lubricated to reduce friction during film extrusion.
- Medium viscosity for smooth processing in cast film applications.
Applications:
Akulon F130-C is a specialized grade primarily used in film extrusion. Its core applications are in high-quality packaging that requires excellent barrier and mechanical properties.
- Food Packaging Films: This is a primary application. Akulon F130-C is used to produce biaxially oriented polyamide (BOPA) films, which are often used for packaging products like cheese, fish, and meat.
- Barrier Films: The material exhibits excellent gas barrier properties, which are essential for extending the shelf life of oxygen-sensitive products.
- General-Purpose Packaging: Beyond food and medical uses, the material’s robustness and clarity make it a good fit for other consumer goods packaging.
