SABIC LEXAN FR 955 PC Resin
SABIC LEXAN FR 955 is a polycarbonate (PC) produced by SABIC, recognized for its high – performance flame – retardant features.
Physical Properties
- Specific Gravity: Measured precisely in accordance with ASTM D792, the specific gravity of the material is found to be 1.19 g/cc, consistent across multiple tests.
- Linear Mold Shrinkage, Flow: Using the SABIC method for a thickness of 3.20 mm (0.126 in), the linear mold shrinkage in the flow direction is 0.0060 – 0.0080 cm/cm (0.0060 – 0.0080 in/in).
- Melt Flow: According to ASTM D1238, when tested under a load of 1.20 kg (2.65 lb) at a temperature of 300 °C (572 °F), the melt flow rate of the material is 7.0 g/10 min.
Polymer Properties:
- Base Material: Polycarbonate (PC)
- Key Characteristics:
- Superior Flame Retardancy: Achieves UL94 V-0 rating at 1.0 mm, self-extinguishing within 10 seconds without flaming drips, ideal for compact electronics.
- Good Flowability: High Melt Flow Rate enables easy injection molding of intricate, thin-walled parts with complex geometries.
- Excellent Dimensional Stability: Maintains shape with minimal warpage in thin-wall designs, ensuring precise fit for electronics enclosures.
- Balanced Mechanical Properties: Offers good impact strength and rigidity for durable, robust electronic component housings.
Applications:
Given these properties, LEXAN™ FR 955 is primarily used in the following applications:
- Thin-Wall Electronic Enclosures: Its V-0 flame rating at low thicknesses makes it ideal for housings for consumer electronics, laptops, and mobile devices where a sleek, lightweight design is required without compromising on safety.
- IT and Telecommunications Equipment: The resin is used for intricate parts within servers, routers, and other networking equipment where both fire safety and complex part design are necessary.
- Electrical and Industrial Components: It is suitable for housings for power supplies, electrical connectors, and other components in industrial settings.
