ExxonMobil LL 6202.19 LLDPE Resin

ExxonMobil LL 6202.19 is a narrow molecular weight butane copolymer created by ExxonMobil, often used in automotive interior components and industrial products.

Physical Properties

  • Density: Tested per ASTM D4883, the material’s density is 0.926 g/cc (0.0335 lb/in³), reflecting a slightly higher mass-to-volume ratio.
  • ESCR 10% Igepal®: Under Condition B of ASTM D1693, the environmental stress crack resistance is 180 hours, indicating durability against chemical stress.
  • Melt Flow: As specified in ASTM D1238, the melt flow rate is 12 g/10 min at 190 °C (374 °F) under a 2.16 kg (4.76 lb) load.

Polymer Properties:

  • Base Material: Narrow molecular weight butane copolymer in the LLDPE category.
  • Modification Features:
    • Tailored for applications demanding high toughness to withstand heavy usage.
    • Allows for easy processing with high tear resistance and low warpage for accurate manufacturing.
    • Contains standard processing antioxidants for improved stability.

Applications:

  • Housewares
    • LL 6202.19: Widely used in the production of housewares such as storage containers, kitchen utensils, and other household items.
  • Lids and Closures
    • Ideal for manufacturing lids and closures for food packaging, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.
    • Its high flow properties ensure precise molding of complex shapes, while its toughness and ESCR provide durability and resistance to cracking under stress or chemical exposure.
  • Thin-Wall Articles
    • LL 6202.19: Well-suited for thin-wall injection-molded articles, such as disposable cutlery, medical trays, and lightweight packaging components.
    • Data Support: The resin’s flexural modulus (400 MPa) provides sufficient stiffness for thin-wall applications, while its impact strength ensures durability despite reduced material thickness.
  • Compounding
    • LL 6202.19: Used as a base resin in compounding applications to create custom polymer blends.
  • Industrial Components
    • Used in industrial applications, such as small molded parts for machinery or equipment, where a balance of toughness, stiffness, and processability is required.

Performance Advantages

    • Processability: The high melt index (50 g/10 min) enables fast cycle times and efficient molding, reducing energy costs and increasing throughput.
    • Durability: High ESCR and impact strength ensure long-term performance in demanding applications.
    • Aesthetic Quality: Good gloss and clarity enhance the visual appeal of molded products, particularly for consumer goods like housewares and lids.
    • Versatility: Suitable for a range of applications, from consumer products to industrial components, due to its balanced mechanical properties.
