Chi Mei Wonderlite PC – 122 Hot Sale PC Resin
Chi Mei Wonderlite PC-122 is a high-flow polycarbonate (PC) resin manufactured by Chi Mei Corporation.
Physical Properties
- Density: Based on ISO 1183, the density of this PC grade is 1.20 g/cc (0.0434 lb/in³), contributing to its mass – related properties in applications.
- Melt Flow: At a load of 1.20 kg and a temperature of 300 °C, using the Melt Volume Rate (ml/10 min) in ISO 1133, the melt flow rate is 22 g/10 min, making it suitable for high – flow processing requirements.
Polymer Properties:
- Base Material: Polycarbonate (PC)
- Modification Features:
- High flowability, facilitating easy injection molding of complex shapes.
- Good impact resistance, providing toughness for various uses.
- Moderate heat resistance, suitable for normal operating temperatures in many applications.
Applications:
- Electronic Device Enclosures (e.g., Mobile Phone Cases, Remote Controls)
- Application Context: PC-122’s high flowability (MFI ~22 g/10 min) and impact resistance make it ideal for thin-walled electronic enclosures requiring precision, durability, and aesthetic appeal.
- Optical Components (e.g., LED Lamp Covers, Light Diffusers)
- Application Context: PC-122’s high transparency and low haze make it suitable for optical components requiring uniform light distribution and durability.
- Thin-Walled Consumer Goods (e.g., Transparent Containers, Cosmetic Packaging)
- Application Context: PC-122’s high flowability and FDA compliance make it ideal for thin-walled, transparent consumer goods like food containers and cosmetic cases.
Processing Recommendations
- Injection Molding:
- Melt Temperature: 270–300°C to leverage high flowability (MFI ~22 g/10 min).
- Mold Temperature: 70–90°C to minimize internal stresses and achieve high clarity.
- Injection Pressure: 80–100 MPa to fill thin-walled or complex molds without voids.
- Drying: Dry resin at 120°C for 4 hours to remove moisture and prevent bubbles.
- Post-Processing: Anneal parts at 120°C for 1–2 hours to relieve residual stresses, especially for thin-walled sections (<1.5 mm).
Limitations and Considerations
- UV Stability: PC-122 is not UV-stabilized (unlike PC-122U). For outdoor applications, apply UV-resistant coatings or select PC-122U.
- Flame Resistance: The UL 94 V-2 rating may not suffice for applications requiring higher flame retardancy (e.g., V-0). Consider PC-6710 for such needs.
- Chemical Resistance: PC-122 has limited resistance to harsh chemicals (e.g., solvents, fuels), restricting its use in chemical-intensive environments.
- Cost: Polycarbonate is more expensive than alternatives like ABS. Ensure cost-benefit analysis justifies its use for high-performance, thin-walled applications.
