LOTTE SM488 Random Copolymer PP Resin
LOTTE SM488 is a random copolymer polypropylene (PP) resin from Lotte Chemical, designed for injection molding and sheet extrusion.
Physical Properties
- Base Resin Density: Determined by ASTM D1505, the base resin density is 0.900 g/cc (0.0325 lb/in³), a key characteristic of the material.
- Water Absorption: As per ASTM D570, water absorption is 0.020% at 86400 sec (24.0 hours), showing its moisture – uptake tendency.
- Base Resin Melt Index: Based on ASTM D1238, at 230 °C (446 °F), the base resin melt index is 20 g/10 min, indicating its flow behavior during processing.
Polymer Properties:
- Base Material: Polypropylene (PP)
- Key Features & Characteristics:
- Exceptional Flowability: This grade has a very high melt flow rate, which enables it to easily fill intricate and complex molds, including those with thin-walled designs.
- High Transparency and Gloss: As a random copolymer, it offers superior clarity and a high-gloss finish, making it an excellent choice for applications where visual appeal and product visibility are critical.
- Low Brittleness: It provides a good balance between stiffness and impact resistance, ensuring that finished parts are durable and resistant to breakage under typical use conditions.
Applications:
The combination of very high flow, excellent transparency, and good heat resistance makes LOTTE SM488 ideal for a wide range of clear, thin-walled, and heat-resistant products.
- Microwaveable lunch boxes: The material’s heat resistance and transparency are perfect for food containers that can be heated in a microwave.
- Food containers and trays: Used for transparent food packaging where a clear, glossy look and durability are needed.
- Disposable tableware: The high flow rate allows for the fast production of disposable cups, containers, and cutlery.
- Transparent containers: Suitable for a variety of clear containers for consumer goods, offering both aesthetic appeal and functionality.
