SABIC LEXAN XLS1110 PC Resin
SABIC LEXAN™ XLS1110 PC is a high-purity, transparent polycarbonate resin specifically developed for automotive forward lighting applications.
Physical Properties
- Density: Measured per ISO 1183, the material’s density is 1.20 g/cc (0.0434 lb/in³), reflecting its mass-to-volume ratio accurately.
- Water Absorption: At 23°C/saturated (ISO 62), the material absorbs 0.35%, indicating moderate moisture uptake under fully saturated conditions.
- Moisture Absorption: Under 23°C/50% RH (ISO 62), the material exhibits a 0.150% moisture absorption rate, suitable for standard humidity environments.
- Linear Mold Shrinkage, Flow: Using the SABIC method, flow-direction shrinkage ranges from 0.0050–0.0070 cm/cm (0.0050–0.0070 in/in) for tested samples.
- Melt Flow: ISO 1133 shows 6.0 g/10 min at 250°C/1.20 kg and 35 g/10 min at 300°C/1.20 kg, demonstrating temperature-dependent flow characteristics.
Polymer Properties:
- Base Material: Polycarbonate (PC)
- Modification Features:
- Specifically designed for optical parts, ensuring excellent flow for precision molding.
- Offers very high transmission and color stability for optical applications.
Applications:
Due to its unique combination of optical clarity, heat resistance, and UV stability, LEXAN XLS1110 PC is primarily used for:
- Automotive Headlamp Lenses: The outer covers of a vehicle’s front headlamps, which require a high degree of transparency and durability against heat and UV exposure.
- Automotive Light Guides: Intricate internal components within headlamp assemblies that are designed to channel and shape light from a source to create specific lighting patterns.
- Inner Lenses and Bezels: The internal optical components of headlamps that control light direction and intensity.
