Dow ELITE™ 5401G LLDPE Resin
Dow ELITE™ 5401G is an enhanced linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) resin, a copolymer produced via Dow’s proprietary INSITE™ Technology.
Physical Properties
- Density: Measured by ASTM D792, the density is 0.9175 g/cc (0.03315 lb/in³). This density gives the resin a good balance of flexibility and stiffness for packaging needs.
- Thickness: With a thickness of 50.8 microns (2.00 mil), it provides enough strength to protect products during packaging and storage.
- Melt Flow: According to ASTM D1238, the melt flow is 1.0 g/10 min. This rate ensures smooth processing when making films for packaging applications.
- Antiblock Level: The antiblock level is 2500 ppm. It prevents the film from sticking to itself, which is crucial for continuous – roll packaging processes.
- Slip Level: At 1000 ppm, the slip level reduces friction between film layers, making the film easier to handle and process.
Polymer Properties:
- Base Material: Ethylene – based copolymer (LLDPE)
- Modification Features:
- INSITE™ – enabled low – temperature sealing capability.
- FDA – approved for food – contact packaging applications.
- Engineered stiffness for structural integrity in packaging.
- Antiblocking agents to prevent film adhesion in automation.
Applications:
- High-Performance Blown Films:
- Food Packaging Films: The resin’s low seal initiation temperature and high seal strength enable reliable, hermetic seals for food packaging, ensuring product freshness and safety.
- Lamination Films: With clarity, moderate stiffness, and low blocking properties, it’s an excellent choice for lamination films in multi-layer packaging.
- Multi-Layer Packaging Films: Used in co-extruded films, its compatibility with other polymers enhances overall film structure performance.
- Industrial Packaging:ensuring films can withstand transportation and handling rigors
- Industrial Pallet Wrap (Stretch Films): Its excellent extensibility and puncture resistance make it ideal for cast stretch films in industrial pallet wrapping.
- Liner Bags: Used in producing liner bags for bulk packaging , its durability and puncture resistance ensure safe containment of heavy or abrasive materials.
- Bag-in-Box Packaging: Combining flexibility and toughness, it’s suitable for bag-in-box applications (e.g., liquids like beverages or industrial fluids).
- Consumer Packaging:It offers clarity and gloss for product visibility, along with mechanical properties for durability. Specific applications include:
- Cling Films: Low blocking and excellent cling properties make it suitable for household and retail food wrapping, adhering well to surfaces for secure food preservation.
- Stretch Wrap Films: For consumer goods, used in stretch wrap films to secure products during retail display or home use, with stretchability and tear resistance for reliable wrapping of irregularly shaped items.
- Flexible Pouches: Employed in stand-up pouches and other flexible formats for consumer goods (e.g., pet food, detergents, personal care products).
- Hygiene and Medical Films:Excellent processability and mechanical properties suit hygiene and medical film applications needing cleanliness, strength, and flexibility. Specific uses are:
- Apertured Topsheet Films: Flexibility and extensibility make it suitable for apertured topsheet films in hygiene products, providing comfort and fluid management.
- Other Applications:Beyond primary uses, Dow ELITE™ 5401G’s versatility extends to specialized applications, leveraging balanced properties:
- Extrusion Coating: Can be used in extrusion coating, providing a durable, protective layer for substrates like paper or foil. Low melt temperature and processability ensure smooth coating.
- Recyclable Applications: Supports sustainability, as LLDPE resins can be recycled into new products (e.g., industrial bins, composite lumber, new plastic films).
