CELANESE CELCON M15HP POM Resin

Celanese Celcon M15HP is a polyoxymethylene (POM) copolymer produced by Celanese Corporation. It is a high-flow, high-molecular-weight grade.

Physical Properties

  • Specific Gravity: Measured in accordance with ASTM D792, the specific gravity is determined to be 1.41 g/cc, reflecting the material’s density relative to water.
  • Density: Using injection-molded samples and following ISO 1183 standards, the density is measured as 1.41 g/cc (0.0509 lb/in³) for the material.
  • Density of Compound: The compound density, assessed without specific standard noted, is 1.165 g/cc (0.04209 lb/in³) for component applications.
  • Moisture Absorption: At 23°C/50%RH per ISO 62 standards, the moisture absorption of the material is found to be 0.200%.
  • Water Absorption at Saturation: In compliance with ISO 62, the water absorption at saturation for the material is measured as 0.75%.
  • Linear Mold Shrinkage, Flow: For injection-molded parts, the flow-direction shrinkage is 0.023 cm/cm (0.023 in/in) per ISO 294-4 standards.
  • Linear Mold Shrinkage, Transverse: Transverse-direction shrinkage, determined by ISO 294-4, is 0.019 cm/cm (0.019 in/in) for molded components.
  • Melt Flow: As per ASTM D1238, the melt flow rate is 1.5 g/10 min; under ISO 1133 at 190°C (374°F)/2.16 kg, it is 1.3 g/10 min [cm³/10min].

Polymer Properties:

  1. Base Material: Acetal Copolymer (Polyoxymethylene – POM)
  2. Key Features & Characteristics:
    • High Toughness and Strength: This material has an excellent balance of rigidity and impact resistance, making it suitable for durable parts that must withstand mechanical stress.
    • High Flowability: The “HP” (High Productivity) designation indicates that this resin has a high Melt Flow Rate, which allows for fast molding cycles and the production of thin-walled or intricate parts.
    • Excellent Chemical Resistance: It offers superb resistance to a wide range of chemicals, including fuels, oils, and common solvents, which is critical for industrial and automotive applications.
    • Low Friction and Wear: The material has a naturally low coefficient of friction, making it an ideal choice for parts that slide or rotate against each other without the need for external lubrication.
    • Dimensional Stability: With low moisture absorption, parts maintain their precise dimensions over time, ensuring reliable performance in varying environmental conditions.

Applications:

The combination of high flow, toughness, and chemical resistance makes Celcon M15HP a leading material for a variety of demanding applications.

  • Automotive Components: Ideal for under-the-hood parts, fuel system components, and automotive interior parts due to its chemical resistance and dimensional stability.
  • Electrical and Electronic Parts: Used for connectors, gear wheels, and switch housings that require high precision, durability, and a smooth surface finish.
  • Industrial and Consumer Goods: Suitable for precision gears, bearing housings, and lock components where low friction and wear are essential.
  • Appliances: Employed in appliance housings and mechanical parts due to its strength and ability to withstand repeated use.

Processing Guidelines

Celcon M15HP is optimized for injection molding. Proper drying is crucial to ensure optimal processing and part quality.

  • Drying: Although POM has very low moisture absorption, it’s recommended to dry the material at 80°C for 3 hours to remove any surface moisture.
  • Melt Temperature: 190-210°C
  • Mold Temperature: 60-90°C
