Close-up of PA6 polyamide resin pellets used in injection molding and industrial manufacturing

what is pa6?

PA6, also known as Polyamide 6 or Nylon 6, is a type of synthetic polymer commonly used in various industries. It’s made through a process called ring-opening polymerization of caprolactam, a chemical compound. PA6 is known for its strength, durability, and resistance to wear and tear, making it a popular material for manufacturing products like automotive parts, textiles, and plastic components. It also has good flexibility and can withstand high temperatures, which adds to its versatility.

Unlike PA66, PA6 has slightly better impact resistance and is easier to process. It also absorbs more moisture from the air, which can affect its dimensional stability, depending on the application.

Polyamide6 FAQs

Is PA6 the same as Nylon 6?

Yes, PA6 is the chemical abbreviation for Polyamide 6, which is also known as Nylon 6. Both names refer to the same polymer.

PA6 generally has better impact resistance and is easier to process, while PA66 offers higher strength and better thermal performance. The choice depends on the application requirements.

PA6 has good resistance to oils, greases, and many solvents, but it may be affected by strong acids or bases.

Yes, PA6 is hygroscopic, which means it absorbs moisture from the air. This can affect its mechanical properties and dimensions, especially in high-humidity environments.

Yes, PA6 is widely used in injection molding due to its easy flow characteristics and ability to form strong, detailed parts.

PA6 can be manufactured in natural, black, or customized colors, depending on the application and requirements.

PA6 has a melting point around 220–230°C and can perform well in temperatures up to about 100°C in continuous use. For higher temperature resistance, reinforced or modified grades are preferred.
