What is the melting point of POM?

The melting point of POM homopolymer is around 175°C (347°F), while copolymer grades melt slightly lower, around 165°C (329°F).

Yes, POM absorbs very little water (less than 0.2% after 24 hours), which means it doesn’t swell or warp easily. This makes it ideal for use in water-handling parts like faucets, pumps, and dishwasher components.

Standard POM is sensitive to UV light. Without UV stabilization, long-term sunlight exposure can cause yellowing, surface cracks, or loss of strength. For outdoor use, UV-stabilized or black-pigmented grades are more durable.

Homopolymer POM (like Delrin®) offers slightly higher strength and stiffness, while copolymer POM has better resistance to hot water and lower risk of centerline porosity in thick parts. The choice depends on application needs.

POM is difficult to bond with adhesives due to its low surface energy. For joining, techniques like ultrasonic welding or mechanical fastening are more commonly used.
